Our society presents many challenges that make healthy rhythms of rest difficult. However, rest is important. Jesus modeled rest for us, and it has implications for our discipleship. Moving forward in your life, how can you establish a weekly habit of rest that allows you to recharge your soul and delight in God.

Are you good at resting, taking a break, truly enjoying a sabbath? In our culture, it can be difficult to slow down and unplug, but it’s necessary.  Because we need rest to grow in our joy in God and to grow our faith, and this kind of rest is found only in Jesus.

Today, with excitement and expectation, we’re going to take a look at the road ahead for Hill Country Bible Church.

Discipleship happens in relationship. Ephesians tells us we are made for relationship, our lives are shaped through those relationships, and we shepherd (disciple) others through relationship.

Discipleship is the lifelong process of becoming more like Jesus. Through discipleship, we can prepare people to know their missional world, develop their spiritual habits, and build biblical knowledge.

Spiritual habits, such as praying, fasting, and worshipping, connect us to Jesus. Yet, the busyness of life can sometimes drain our affection or enthusiasm for spiritual habits. As we see in John 15, Jesus is the vine and we are the branch. Considering this, how can you practice staying connected to Him and deepening your spiritual habits?

How evangelistic are you among your “oikos” — your relationship sphere of influence? First, consider who’s in your oikos. Then begin to pray for these people and intentionally plant gospel seeds, such as welcoming new people in your neighborhood and living your life in a Christ-like way.   

In this political season, we can seek to influence the culture for good, in part, by praying for and seeking shalom (or peace).  

In this political season, be careful and mindful about how you spend your time. Specifically, consider how much time you spend with media vs. with God. Now, and always, it’s important to guard your heart and mind.

As you navigate this political season, remember that as a follower of Jesus, you are a witness for Him. And that means that you should speak truth and speak it in love. Love is the crucial element in how you should seek to engage.
