Education Special Event
Backpack Attack July 29 - 31
A new school year is like a new box of crayons - fresh, bright, and full of potential! However, as many as 2,600 local students may not have the resources to start school with a backpack and school supplies.
Your willingness to serve at the event and/or give an online donation allows us to provide a backpack filled with grade specific school supplies with the goal of reducing the performance gap in our schools based on socio-economic status. Will you prayerfully consider joining us in this opportunity to together be the hands of feet of Jesus in our community by meeting both physical and spiritual needs?
Thursday, July 29th, 2 PM - 5 PM
Set up the LEO Center for the weekend. Includes arranging tables and chairs and unpacking supplies.
Friday, July 30th, 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM
Fill back backpacks until we finish. Come and go as needed. Breakfast will be provided.
Saturday, July 31st, 7 AM - 2 PM
Serve the families coming to pick up their backpacks. Greeters, hosts, set-up, tear-down help needed.
Every Child Reading by the End of 3rd Grade
Serve as a Literacy Partner or Mentor
A few years ago, the church community asked city leaders what we could do to make a lasting impact in our city. The answer was simple: help fight illiteracy and school dropout rates. Last school year, more than 966 volunteer literacy partners and mentors served nine school districts across Central Texas, sitting down with elementary students each week for 30 minutes to read one-on-one. With the program growing rapidly and with more and more children in need of special attention, there’s a place for you to make a difference in a child’s life and education. Consider investing just 30 minutes a week in a school near you, and bless the life of a child.
