Education Special Event

Backpack Attack July 29 - 31

A new school year is like a new box of crayons - fresh, bright, and full of potential! However, as many as 2,600 local students may not have the resources to start school with a backpack and school supplies.

Your willingness to serve at the event and/or give an online donation allows us to provide a backpack filled with grade specific school supplies with the goal of reducing the performance gap in our schools based on socio-economic status. Will you prayerfully consider joining us in this opportunity to together be the hands of feet of Jesus in our community by meeting both physical and spiritual needs?

Every Child Reading by the End of 3rd Grade

Serve as a Literacy Partner or Mentor

A few years ago, the church community asked city leaders what we could do to make a lasting impact in our city. The answer was simple: help fight illiteracy and school dropout rates. Last school year, more than 966 volunteer literacy partners and mentors served nine school districts across Central Texas, sitting down with elementary students each week for 30 minutes to read one-on-one. With the program growing rapidly and with more and more children in need of special attention, there’s a place for you to make a difference in a child’s life and education. Consider investing just 30 minutes a week in a school near you, and bless the life of a child.

Heart to Heart

Heart 2 Heart is a weekly, after-school club for 5th grade girls dedicated to providing an accepting and loving environment where girls can develop lifelong values through fun activities and lessons in virtue. A primary goal of H2H is for the girls to realize their true self-worth and develop the beauty of inner character. It is designed to teach and encourage girls to embrace a life that is “Honest, Excellent, Admirable, Responsible, and remind them constantly that they are a "Treasure.” H2H has been around LISD for over 15 years.
