Slavery is often considered a historical problem. That’s why it’s shocking to learn there are more people trapped in modern-day slavery—or human trafficking—today than at any other point in history.
Human trafficking is a crime that involves coercing a person to provide labor or to engage in commercial sex acts. And this crime is happening not only around the world, but also right here in Greater Austin. Studies consistently report that 50-90% of child sex trafficking victims have been involved in the child welfare system (primarily group/institutional homes, aging out, or neglectful foster homes).
Preventing human trafficking requires increased education about the problem, halted demand for the trafficked person, and a willingness to spread the love of Jesus to all those both involved in and impacted by this crime.
