Get Baptized
It’s a symbol of transformation, of life change
Considering baptism? Wondering why it’s an important step of faith? See what others say…
“I am being baptized today to show God and my friends and family that I love Jesus and I want to serve the Lord in every way possible.”
“This summer at Camp Wilderness Ridge, they talked about how we are like a seed that grows into a really big tree. How we start small grow big with Jesus and that getting baptized is a way to let everyone know I am a Christian and part of God’s family. When I am old enough I want to be a counselor and go on mission trips.”
“I know that I am fully ready to get baptized. I know what it means: that Jesus gave his life so I could live a clean one. He died so that my sins could be washed away. I am glad that I can share with everyone that I have accepted Christ as my Savior!”
There is something transcendent about submerging underwater and coming out, dripping, to applause and the joy of hundreds. It’s a symbol of transformation, of life change.
Jesus did it. There’s this cool story in the Bible…He was just about to really get cranking on his ministry, and the John the Baptist guy, the one who ate locusts and wild honey and never showered, well, he baptized Jesus in the Jordan.
Then all heaven broke loose. Literally. People hit the ground when they heard, “This is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased.” It was a Charlton Heston moment. And the world has never been the same.
Really it’s a symbol. A personal expression and a public display of faith. Invite your friends, family and neighbors. It does not seal the deal on going to heaven, but it is a sign that Christ is in our hearts. It’s like we’re saying the old stuff is washed away and we’re new. We’re new in God. We’re raised out of that water (Cedar Park’s finest) to walk a new way of life. So we think that if we’ve begun a new life with God, we ought to get baptized. Some of us have been baptized twice even – once when we were babies and again once we were older and could understand the significance. Pretty amazing.
How to get Baptized at HCBC
Baptisms do not have to take place in a formal service or in our Worship Center at all. Small groups can gather in pools, rivers or lakes for baptisms. Membership at HCBC is not required for baptism, nor is baptism required for membership. It is your public demonstration showing that you are a believer in Jesus Christ.
If you have questions about the meaning of baptism or questions about your relationship with Jesus, please contact Kim Young to schedule an appointment with a pastor.
If you have little ones, children in the second through fifth grades, we have a Baptism Basics class that helps kiddos get the significance of baptism and ensures that they understand their decision to accept Christ. Children's baptism classes are held several times a year. For information on children's baptism classes, contact Amy Mancuso in Children's Ministry.
All others may contact Nancy Duron, HCBC Baptism Coordinator, for more information about scheduling a baptism.
