Find a Short Term Trip

Step Into God’s Global Story

Receive Missionary Prayer Requests

God has a part for every follower of Jesus in His global story. Multiplying disciples among all nations is not isolated to a few people who feel called to another culture – it is an invitation for every Christian to participate in God’s mission to be worshiped by all tribes and peoples and tongues (Rev 7:9).

We’re here to partner with you as you discover what purpose you play in God’s global story – whether you were made to pray, go, send, or welcome. We’d love to help you discover what your role is. Learn more here, and let us help you take your next step in reaching the world for Christ.

GO Trip FAQs

Answers to your frequently asked questions about short-term mission opportunities.

How do I identify which trip is my best next step?

  • Pray and ask God to guide you to how He wants to use you to reach the nations, regardless of the location. Lay down your plans and tell Him you are willing to go anywhere at any time to do anything for Him.
  • Click on the “More Info” link on specific trip pages to learn more.
  • Email go@hcbc.com for help.

When should I apply?

Applications open Sunday, November 12th! Check the specific trip info pages for application deadline dates (either January 15 or March 1, 2018). Trips have a maximum capacity, and applications will close early if spaces get full – so apply as soon as possible.

This year, the first 25 applicants get a free Global Outreach t-shirt!

*Note: Parents cannot fill out applications for their children. Each participant must fill out their own individual application.

Who can apply for trips?

Adults, college, retired professionals, high school students, middle school students – we offer trips for various ages!

Click on the “More Info” link on specific trip pages to learn which demographic the trip is well suited for.

*Note: all applicants ages 18 and up will be required to submit a background check if we do not already have one for them on file.

What should I do if I miss the application deadline?

We encourage you apply next year, as we do not add participants to teams after the application deadline. If you want to participate in something sooner, we may be able to plug you in with one of our partner ministries. Email go@hcbc.com.

*Note: Team Leaders cannot extend application deadlines.

What happens after I apply?

Applying does not necessarily mean you are part of the team. Applications will be evaluated by the GO Team and Trip Leader. You will be notified with information regarding Team Trainings once invited onto the team – within 2 weeks of the application deadline.

For domestic trips: apply, wait for application to be reviewed, and you will be contacted within 2 weeks of applications closing. After being invited onto the team, participants must attend 5 mandatory Trip Trainings.

For international trips: apply, register for your trip interview via the link provided in your application confirmation email, and you will be contacted within 2 weeks of applications closing. After being invited onto the team, participants must attend 5 mandatory Trip Trainings.

What are Trip Trainings and are they mandatory?

Yes, each team has 5 mandatory Trip Trainings before going. Each participant is expected to fully participate in all trainings in order to adequately prepare for the project, get to know their team, and gather all necessary trip details.

If your schedule will not allow you to participate in all 5 Team Trainings, we encourage you to wait until next season to apply. If you are on a team, and miss more than 1 Team Training without an approved excuse (approved by the Global Outreach department), you may be removed from the team.

We ask parents of students to accompany their child(ren) to the first kick-off training, as teams will be discussing fundraising and expectations. Parents are then invited and encouraged to attend the following trainings, though it is not required.

*Note: If a parent attends a training, it is required that the student also be present. Parents cannot attend trainings on behalf of their child.

What is covered in the cost of the trip?

Covered: Air and land travel, meals, accommodations, registration fees, ministry supplies, trip insurance, and visas (if applicable).

Not covered: reimbursements for passport expenses or items purchased for your specific trip, immunizations, spending money, souvenirs.

Does HCBC provide scholarships for trips?

No. Each trip participant is expected to submit a trip deposit once accepted onto a team – a personal donation covering 10% of the trip cost. An applicant will not be considered part of the team until they have turned in their 10% deposit at their first Team Training.

Team members must then support-raise (raise the rest of their funds) for their trip. They will receive a fundraising policy to sign explaining fundraising expectations and a support-raising training once accepted onto a team.

If a team member fully participates in support-raising but falls short of raising the total amount of the trip, they will be asked to submit up to an additional 10% of the trip cost to cover their expenses.

This means, a participant may be asked to provide up to 20% of their trip cost if they fully participate in the support-raising process. Those who do not fully participate in support-raising as outlined in their Team Training will be expected to pay 100% of their trip costs. Email go@hcbc.com with questions.

*Note: Team Leaders cannot change fundraising policies.

What happens if I raise more funds than the total cost of my trip?

All participants are raising funds as a team. If a participant raises more funds than their trip cost, those funds will be used by Global Outreach to cover team shortages or to donate to the long-term work in the location in which they are serving.

Extra funds may not be held, carried over to a future trip, or reimbursed.

What happens to my funds if I drop off the trip?

If you drop off a trip, your raised support will automatically transfer to the team to cover your incurred expenses up to that point. Funds may not be held, carried over to a future trip, or reimbursed.

What if I have a vacation planned around the same time as my trip? May I travel to/from the trip location to/from my vacation location?

No, all participants must travel to/from the trip location with their team.

Travel continuations are not possible, as they interfere with group travel rates and complicate travel logistics, thus increasing the cost for the whole team. Moreover, travel continuations typically interfere with or inconvenience the host and/or team leader, as well as become a distraction to the participant while they are serving on the field.

Most importantly, we desire to be good stewards of the funds others are donating to support the long-term work teams are participating in. We do not support using their donations to help make your travel plans easier and more affordable.

*Note: Team Leaders cannot change travel continuation policies.

Will my food allergies be an issue?

Most of our trips locations do not cater to individual dietary restrictions. If you have severe allergies, we recommend bringing appropriate snacks to supplement your diet for the week.

Email specific questions to go@hcbc.com if you would like to check about the trip location for which you are interested in applying.

Will there be an opportunity for sightseeing or souvenir shopping?

There is no guarantee of sightseeing or souvenir shopping. Do not apply for a trip with the expectation of having a recreational day. Our teams will focus on their goal for going: to support our long-term missionaries or field partners, and accelerate their work through evangelism and kingdom service.

What if I have a question that has not been addressed?

Email your questions to go@hcbc.com and we will respond as soon as possible.
