Central Texas Fires
It has been incredible to see God working through the HCBC family as well as our brothers and sisters in other churches to meet the practical and spiritual needs of those affected by the fires. Here are some of the ways God has used your investment of time and resources:
- 65 Bastrop area families have been adopted by 51 HCBC Relief Partners/small groups.
- Over 2,200 "care kits" consisting of food items and household supplies were delivered to the residents of Steiner Ranch and Leander.
- Beds, bedding, toiletries, food and clothing were provided for 16 families displaced by the fire in Middle Brook Gardens.
- Adopted seven local families who need longer term assistance to walk with them through recovery.
- Many of you are also helping through monetary and product donations and a variety of other ways.
There are additional ways to stay involved and share the love of Christ with those affected in Bastrop area.
1. Give of Your Resources
You may make monetary donations to Central Texas fire fund by clicking here, or bring Walmart and/or HEB gift cards to the church office Monday - Friday, 8:30am to 5pm to help resource adopted families.
2. Become a Relief Partner
We are seeking 8 additional small groups or individuals that will walk with a family through the relief and recovery process. Contact Kristi Lewis for more information.
3. Opportunities to Serve
BC partners with the Austin Disaster Relief Network (ADRN) who continues to provide daily support in Bastrop and the Austin Area. There are on-going events that need volunteers. You may sign up individually or get a group together to serve. Go to www.adrntx.org for more information and to sign up. Follow ADRN on facebook.

Officials are projecting that Bastrop Relief efforts like most likely take 3-4 years to rebuild every home. In Spicewood, most likely over 1 year. Unfortunately, 790 families did not have insurance and FEMA only provided a maximum of $30,400 (minus any other relief expenses already given to a family). This leaves the church, ministries, and local community to come up with the remaining dollars to rebuild every families home (an additional $40k in materials per home with volunteer labor) and volunteer labor force to keep costs down. In order to accomplish this God-sized task (all things are possible with God!), ADRN is asking every Christian volunteer to commit to the Lord in this new year, minimally one day over the next two months to the following clean-up efforts (love in action!): 1. Chainsaw Clean-up: ADRN is establishing a team to do tree cutting and general brush removal tasks, starting sometime in mid-late January. We will need volunteers that can operate chainsaws as well as general laborers who can assist the chainsaw operators in removing and transporting small trees and limbs. To volunteer, please email ADRN Bastrop/Spicewood Project Coordinator, John Banks at banksjg01@yahoo.com. 2. Home Construction: If you have some building skills or are interested in learning construction skills, you are perfect for this task! ADRN is joining with the Bastrop/Spicewood Long-Term Commities tasks force of professional builders who are commited to help supervise/teach basic construction skills so general volunteers will have an opportunity to serve Christ in Bastrop and learn valuable new skills. Every home will be built from the ground up so so every phase of construction is needed (and can be taught). Help us build a resource base by contacting ADRN soon to inventory what skills we have to offer those in need. Most likely, home construction will begin sometime in February. To volunteer, please email ADRN Bastrop/Spicewood Project Coordinator, John Banks at banksjg01@yahoo.com. 3. Preparedness Peace - 6 week small group study: Click here to register or find out more on this small group study. |
